Try A Bleat
by Jason Butler ...........................................................................................24
The whitetail deer is a very vocal animal. The doe bleat can be a very effective tool to use when trying to bring an old buck in for a close clean shot.
Hark the Hounds Part 1
by Don Shumaker .......................................................................................30
Deer hunting with dogs is an age old southern tradition. However, most recently this practice has become the center of debate within the hunting community.
When late October rolls around,
the whitetail buck starts turning up
the heat with his rutting activity.
One of the early signs that the rut has
started is the scrapes that bow
hunters discover. Most all scrapes
will be found under a bush or near a
tree with a low hanging limb. The
branches above the scrape are
always broken and scarred. A scrape
is a buck's calling card for all of the
receptive does within his territory!
